In Lower Saxony, unheated cold conservatories up to 30 m² and under 5 m in height with sufficient boundary distance are usually exempt from approval; open patio roofs are often also exempt depending on dimensions. A heated living conservatory counts as an extension and requires a permit – the Hannover Region is responsible as the lower building authority. We clarify this in advance and help with the documents.
If you want to use it year-round and enjoy the view of Marienburg or the Leine floodplain even in winter, the heated living conservatory with insulation and thermal glass is right. For a sheltered, frost-free garden link, a more affordable cold conservatory is often enough. If you only need weather and sun protection over the terrace, an aluminium patio roof is the slimmest solution. We advise you honestly based on your intended use.
